Day One

So here we are. Post number one. Day number one of the journey to Burning Man. Whew. Yikes. Woo!

This day began with the usual, "Oh shit" moment that usually proceeds a trip. Upon getting down my teapot from its top shelf (teapot being my version of a piggy bank-whatever works, right?), I noticed sitting next to it a very important item. My sleeping bag. As I pulled it and the teapot down I resisted the urge to go bang my head against a wall. I then proceeded to unpack and rearrange everything until a text from my friend Jen knocked some sense into me. "Why do you have to rearrange everything for a sleeping bag? Just roll the sucker up and toss her in the van!" Duh.

If this is any indication, the journey will be a series of head slappingly dumb moments and near misses. Let the games begin!

As a virgin to the burn, I felt that it would be great to get down some thoughts and memories in a public fashion. Sometime this afternoon, time unknown, we will be throwing our stuff in the van and heading out. "We" being myself, Nick and Vincent. We are leaving the lovely borough of Brooklyn for the vast expanse that is this ridiculously large country. I cannot wait to get to Black Rock city, pull on my moccasin boots, faux fur vest and see what adventures await. I pray I do not kill N or V along the way. Those who know me and them can appreciate that this will be an admirable accomplishment.

Things are in a neat little pile on my bedroom floor. I have Stanton Warriors and Armory Podcasts downloaded for the drive. Prep is done as best as I could manage. My family thinks I'm insane (this is nothing new) and my hair is freshly dyed blue. Smurfette is ready to GET GOING!
